backThe tail wagging the dog The "copyright" industry consisting of a technologically obsolete Hollywood studios; music recording companies; and publishers of books is minuscule . To protect this pipsqueak industry, the Obama administration proposes both through the Department of Justice and the ACTA to impose draconian steps that will threaten many other not so pipsqueak industries, including the IT industry. Michele and I have pointed out the problem before. Finally the rest of industry has realized the threat - here is a report report on the magnitude of the industry that depends on "fair use." Levine on Fair Use Comments The criminalization of infringing use and the empowerment of public agencies to protect the business models of private companies raises the specter of Corporatism. Corporations seem to be obtaining the power to unilaterally and with out due process point to the finger of blame. The recipient then has to prove his/her innocence rather than the accuser proving guilt. Given the current trend, when declared guilty by the I guess, as a type of professional courtesy, when companies steal each others so-called intellectual property they don't seem to be considered guilty of criminal behavior. I guess this is simply another reflection that the law is not longer about justice and of the lack of ethical behavior exhibited by our corporate leaders today.
